The legend lives on - Greg Feltham Golf Day

Why Butler & Stag were honoured to sponsor this year's Greg Feltham Golf Day

It's testament to the enduring legacy of the man himself that the Greg Feltham Golf Day recently celebrated its fifth successful year and we at Butler & Stag couldn't have been more delighted to support the event by being its main sponsor.

For those that didn't know Greg, an MD at a graphic design agency, he was a larger than life character whose popularity stretched way beyond his West Essex home. He was known as a bit of a joker whose big smile and devil-may-care attitude was infectious and who always got the party going, whether DJing (a huge passion of his) or simply having the best time (another of his many gifts).

Tragically, Greg died suddenly at home in September 2017. It subsequently transpired that, while recovering from a minor operation, he'd suffered a pulmonary embolism that led to a fatal heart attack - he was just 45 years old.

Greg left behind long-term partner and fiancée, Helen, and two small children, Rosie and George, and it was to raise money to help support Greg's young family that the golf day was first conceived by a group of close friends. However, a special shout out goes to Lee Cummings who set up a charity in Greg's name and puts the now annual event together.

As in previous years, the day itself (falling just shy of what would have been Greg's 50th birthday) was a huge celebration of the man's life. As a keen golfer and a hard partyer, he would have undoubtedly approved of the day's line up - an 18-hole round at the West Essex Golf Club (complete with beer being sold from buggies) followed by a big family BBQ on the terrace, topped off with drinking and dancing in the bar.

This year, more than 80 golfers took part, with many more friends and family descending for the food and fun to be had afterwards. The atmosphere was nothing short of incredible and thankfully the weather decided to play ball, with clear blue skies for much of the day.

During the evening an auction and raffle also took place, with some great prizes generously donated by local businesses.

Suffice to say, as the night drew to a close, glasses were still being raised in Greg's memory and we'd hazard a guess that there were a fair few sore heads the next day, which, after all, is exactly what Greg would have wanted!
