This year's trip to MIPIM was everything you'd expect from one of the real estate industry's biggest global gatherings—busy, energetic, and full of opportunity. From the moment the week began, our schedule quickly filled up with meetings, catch-ups, and a steady stream of social events, all set against the lively backdrop of Cannes.
Like many attendees, we arrived with a diary that looked manageable on paper. In reality, it became a fast-paced few days of moving between hotel lobbies, beachfront meeting spots, conference spaces, and the occasional quiet corner (in our case The Dukes pub LOL) to regroup before the next conversation. The atmosphere throughout the week was vibrant, with professionals from across the global real estate ecosystem coming together to exchange ideas, explore partnerships, and take stock of where the market is heading.
I know lots of people who try to calculate an ROI of the week, for me its pretty much impossible, but I do know the week strengthens relationships and builds several new ones which over time leads to new business. The UK market can be demanding and energy sapping, making time for friends within the industry isn't always possible because of this, MIPIM provides the perfect setting to re-establish those friendships.
What stood out most was the sheer number of conversations happening simultaneously across the city. Formal meetings blended seamlessly with spontaneous discussions—often sparked by chance encounters along the Croisette or at evening receptions. These moments can sometimes be just as valuable as the scheduled ones, offering a chance to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new contacts from across the industry.
Speaking to someone who has been attending for almost 20 years, having an organised diary means nothing in MIPIM. Wise words for sure.
The social side of the week was equally active. Evenings provided opportunities to continue conversations from the day in a more relaxed setting. From networking receptions to dinners and informal gatherings, the events created space to strengthen relationships and share perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. I can also testify that when you're sick of the sight of Rose, Ma Nolans Irish Pub does a cracking pint of Guiness.
Of course, a packed schedule means the days go quickly, it's relentlessly tiring and by Friday you feel drained and ready for a good night's sleep at home in your own bed.
Looking back, the week was a reminder of the importance of face-to-face engagement in an industry built on relationships. While digital communication keeps us connected throughout the year, there's real value in taking the time to meet in person, exchange ideas, and build momentum for the months ahead.
All in all, it was a busy but rewarding few days—filled with productive meetings, engaging conversations, and plenty of social interaction. Now it's time to follow up on the discussions, continue the dialogue, and turn those conversations into action.
Until next year.
